For years we’ve done mystery dinners.

It’s an unusual way to help associate something we love (food) with something we learn (countries, states, Bible stories). And it’s always fun and often funny.

Extend your Olympic experience by hosting a Summer Olympic Mystery Dinner after the game. Today we're sharing a free printable menu and a cheat sheet/shopping listfor the chef.

Here are the steps to make a mystery dinner:

  1. Go Shopping (List included.)
  2. Block off the kitchen (No cheating.)
  3. Prep supplies (Even if it doesn’t need cooking, putting supplies out makes them easier/faster to grab.)
  4. Print menus and set the table with a pen. (I put the menu upside down.)
  5. To make it faster, I make my plate ahead of time.

When people arrive, they all turn over the menu at the same time and circle what they want to order. The waiter/waitress collects the menus, you plate the food, and the waiter/waitress has to deliver the food explaining what it means.

Here’s an example. A “Gold Medal” could be a Hershey’s Gold Nugget.

Social media is a great source for ideas if you need to change one of our selections due to unavailability or dietary restraints.

Mystery dinners are not generally cheap, balanced, or the easiest to clean up by my standards, but they are special. My kids really look forward to it. And it reminds me again why I'm thankful to have a dishwasher.
