Here are some online videos to learn a variety of artistic styles. White they are directed at children, parents can get in on the act, too. There are realistic, natural, impressionistic and whimsical lessons for all interest levels and all experience levels.

Elizabeth Pontvik

Shout out to my SIL, former college painting professor, Elizabeth Pontvik, who originally started making art lessons for my kids. You will find them themed to what my kids were interested in at the time.

You are an Artist

While there often seems to be a lot of talking in the videos, there’s something about learning from a calm grandmother-type who thinks you can do no wrong. This is huge since many children feel like they aren’t good enough sometimes. Don’t we all have those moments?

Don’t feel like you have to run out and buy chalk pastels. We use broken crayons quite happily. They don’t always blend as well, but for our age groups (and mommy’s fear of mess) the crayons are just fine.

Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems

Funny and fun if you’re a fan of his books, Mo Willems was a hit with my kids at the beginning of Covid. This is one of the activities we quit homeschool in order not to miss. Looks like we’re behind because we missed the anniversary videos. Don’t worry, it’s on the schedule for this week!

My children left the first classes with the inspiration to turn any number written on a piece of paper into some new drawing. Watch the videos to see what I mean!

Art for Kids Hub

For the impatient child (or adult, ahem) these can be short or long depending on talent, interest, or ability. My children have used these for birthday cards, get well cards, and to decorate rooms at a nursing home at Christmas (because in Florida everyone misses a fireplace to hang their stocking!)

And one you have to pay for!

Our Westward Journey

If you come across any free Nature Study opportunities with Cindy West, don’t hesitate to join! She shows how to observe nature and transfer it to a journal for appreciation. They seem to be fewer and farther between as her path has changed. But they are worth it!
