Brice’s Cross Roads
Corinth and Shiloh
Technically a Tennessee address, this park crosses both states. Part of the Shiloh National Park, Corinth [Mississippi] Interpretive Center has its own booklet and badge. A few pages required presence at the location including an examination of the fountain and sitting in the mock school area.
If you get the badges from both locations, you earn an extra patch.
Gulf Islands
This badge can be picked up at a few spots along the Gulf Coast. This is one of very few badges for parks that we haven’t actually been to. We were trying to stop by as we drove through during Covid, and the Ranger stations were closed. They mailed us ours. Printable here.
Medgar Evers
This is the badge we are currently missing. The link and printable are fairly new–in the last couple months. I have seen where people are nervous about the area of town the home is located in. Moreover, it’s a really tough story for the kids, and our youngest just isn’t there yet. We have certainly had exposure to the story and civil rights at places like Brown vs. Board of Education.
Natchez
I loved visiting antebellum homes as a child and imagining what life was like on the plantations. Somehow I’d missed the class on slavery. We’ve done things a little differently for our kids. In addition to our careers keeping us from living as near so many antebellum homes,
We visited Melrose to get this booklet. It is currently unavailable for download on the website. You can draw an imaginary picture of the fort, do a word search, and complete the maze. We also visited three participating locations on this visit to receive the Civil War patch via mail.
Natchez Trace Parkway
This printable can get you a badge at a few different locations. The Natchez Parkway is a long way to drive, so carefully evaluate your map.
The booklet has two parts. Kids can read descriptions of former residents in Mississippi, mark what they see as they drive along, do a maze and break a code. They can also take a quiz to see what type of park ranger they are best like.
You can also get a second badge for Wildland Fires.
Tupelo
Vicksburg
It’s been a very long time since we got this booklet. It was one of the firsts for us because it is so close to my in-law’s. I recall it being extremely difficult for my dyslexic kindergartener, which was the inspiration for us requesting booklets ahead of time. My non-dyslexic worked very quickly, though. You can request a booklet via mail.
