Hi friends! In honor of “just because day” (August 27, 2025), I’m sharing some ideas for some mini celebrations and just because moments. I love celebrating the little things people have done for the world, so today I’m collecting all of my ideas and things I’ve stuck in my back pocket for celebrating the people around us.

Sometimes little is the best way to make someone feel seen and loved, so most of these options are small, but I’m sure you could use your creative brain to make these ideas bigger if you feel that’s the best option.

Let’s get into it!

Cards just because

Often, cards are the best way to show people you care. A simple note stands out so well in a sea of text messages and other online communication. Here are some cards I love, but enjoy the process of choosing cards you love too.

EM & Friends has quite a selection of awesome cards. I especially love this one and this one.

I saw these cards in a bookstore somewhere and thought they were so cute and would be so fun to simply celebrate someone.

I love these cards by DellaByDesign on Etsy. They’re simple, but they’d make a huge impact

Make some quilted postcards! I mail mine in an envelope so they don’t get damaged. They might be a little extra work, but that extra work shows just a little more “I care”. This post was super helpful when I was first learning to make quilted postcards. This post from Suzy Quilts was helpful too.

Two pictures of quilted postcards. One blue and the other multicolored. Both use a variety of different fabrics. Both have butterflies on them.

It looks like the Lily & Val shop is now closed, but you can still view their cards here for inspiration for making your own!

Check out 1Canoe2's selection of "just because" cards! Love them!

“Happy Mail” by Eunice and Sabrina Moyle is an awesome book (I own it!) with so many card options for any “just because” occasion.

Trader Joe’s also has a super fun collection of cards, if you have one nearby, take a trip out and pick up a few!

Gina Chong has a fun idea for a mini notebook to write down your celebratory comments in.

Also see our post on joke cards. They are a surefire way to make someone smile.

If you want to go the extra mile, decorate the envelope you give your card in too! There are so many bits of inspiration out there, a simple Google search will leave you dripping in ideas.

Not sure who to send a card to? Check out The World Needs More Love Letters. More Love Letters is an organization that mails letters to people in need around the world, you can participate see their website to learn more!

Gifts Just Because

If gift giving is something you love, you can absolutely give little gifts as (or with) your “hey, I’m thinking about you”.

Some options could include:

  • Chapstick
  • A cute soap (We found some adorable turtle soaps at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Unfortunately, they’re not available online. An excuse to go back!)
  • A keychain
  • Fun socks
  • Pens (Make sure they fit in whatever you’re giving them in first if you’re giving them in something! I’ve made that mistake a few too many times haha.)
  • A card game
  • Some tiny trinkets or toys
  • Fun shaped Post-It notes (I have these, but anything could do. There are so many options! The heart ones would be so fun!)
  • Paper clips (also in fun shapes, of course!)
  • Tea (individually wrapped packages are generally best if you’re not giving the whole box.)
  • The list could go on! Remember to think about your recipient when choosing a gift so they know you really care and know what they love.

I make these quilted zipper pouches from scraps and keep a stash of them for gifts. I love to fill them with little goodies to add a little extra surprise.

Celebrate Just Because

I love this post from Studio DIY that shares how to have a mini party with mini everything. From mini balloons to mini piñatas Kelly covers it all. Bonus: she shares a mini party invitation free pdf too!

Hallmark has an awesome list of ideas for "just because" celebrations.

Other "Just Becauses"

Celebrate Birthdays

This may be an obvious one, but occasionally someone will say to me “No one remembered my birthday this year.” Birthday cards, little buntings (I love to give some like these, DIYed out of washi tape.), a giant sign on their garage (Yes, that is something we do. See below.), even just a text if you don’t have any other way to tell them. A little thing to say “happy birthday” will go a long way. I’m always collecting people’s birthdays. (I really like it if they’ll just tell me when their birthday is without me even asking, but most of the time I have to either ask them for it or ask a mutual friend.)

Celebrate Half Birthdays

In our house, we get sung half of the “happy birthday” song and sometimes we only get to eat on half of our plate. Sometimes I make cards with half a donut or half a cake on them. I also love to just send a simple text that says “Happy half birthday!” It’s something people don’t expect since that’s not generally something people celebrate, so it’s a nice surprise.

In a world where people need to feel loved and seen now, more than ever, let’s be the one to say “hey, I see you”.

Happy “just because” day!
