I wanted to find scroll saw projects to make for Christmas presents. After Googling, we found a video of these guys in the UK who make and sell wooden items

They shared free templates, and after downloading, we enlarged them to the size I wanted before printing. I used the robin, owl, heron, and the kingfisher. Now I wish I made the eagle, too. There are many more good templates on their site. You just have to look for them.

I used bamboo flooring planks rescued from a neighbor's trash can for the base and scrap birch plywood for the birds. The flooring planks were already finished smoothly, but that also made it kind of hard to glue together. I didn't have to strain the flooring and after trying a light and dark stain on the birds, I chose Minwax Dark Walnut.

My soldering iron didn't work and I didn't know we had a wood burner, so I used a fine tip Sharpie to add the details.

I used a 1 5/8 forstner bit for the tea light to fit in and tacked it with tape just for wrapping so it would come out in one piece.

It was a fun project especially if you know someone who really likes candles.
