One day I wanted to make a craft with popsicles, and I thought of making a peacock. The place we camp has peacocks. And they often run wild in zoos. They are loud and very big looking, especially when their feathers are up. Did you know they can fly up into trees? I’ve watched them! You can Google some facts about the peacock to learn while you create.
These are the supplies you will need:
- Glue
- Scissors
- Cardboard (better) or paper
- Some popsicle sticks
- Markers, color pencils, or something else
I started by coloring the popsicle sticks for the tail.
- Draw a green squiggly line in a circle.
- Fill it in with a lighter green.
- Draw one dot of blue in the middle.
- Draw one line down the middle.
- Draw shorter lines angled more up, but going to the edge as you can see in the photo.
Decide how many tail feathers you want to put on. I only put seven, but you could put them closer together and not have the spaces in between.
To stack them, glue one a little bit behind the other, just touching the bottoms of the sticks. The popsicle sticks will start to elevate. When you are waiting for them to dry, you can prop up the higher ones on a book or similar so you don't have to hold them.
Meanwhile, for the head feathers, cut a small-ish piece of cardboard or paper in a triangle with a slightly curved base. Cut small slits in the top to make the feathers look like they are movable. Color with green and blue.
For the body, cut a shape like a banana with a big bottom. Cut a triangle on one side for the tail. Color the peacock (blue is the normal color) and put an eye on the head. You can also draw an outline of a wing on the body. Coloring the beak is optional.
Glue the head feathers to the body. And glue the body to the tail feathers.
And now you are done. This can be a puppet or a decoration. I like to give my creations away.
