![](https://eatlearngo.family/assets/uploads/2737fa960c23e65341e065f7450a0613.jpg)

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing some of my favorite card making supplies since as you may know, I love making cards!

## Writing Utensils

- [Gelly Rolls](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gelly+rolls&crid=1Q4PS7T6CLRU9&sprefix=%2Caps%2C71&ref=nb_sb_ss_recent_2_0_recent)

I have many different sets of these, my favorite ones are the [neon set](https://www.amazon.com/Sakura-Gelly-Moonlight-Assorted-Colors/dp/B000GZOCA8/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1Q4PS7T6CLRU9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.gIV3dLAzVtAsvRThfPUJMj4kkjCixSHKHzlyZcJtSYHwYkXEIq7KBQJB-oCDkSHBzJe-JLDbypaJFFDm6diwEyvBywTVZntVl0QoTojLvMu6rhq-w10RqWHwkMgqoCbLJ-crpjgA3Z2SOuUlQ5KSHqsLfTpgfXQfxkkkrVFwfWlbQQJV42QRgCfbojxs8gqTPcEaV14kfISzNdoKQtkudjdG9xF69gcD7X69H_9gdHinoums1EMt3HDovzQHZdZpJTSrJEUWhsBilQYKVGinWH_OPPpUetyPCsYEdgewq-Y.e21hGd590dBi4plyPwHPeA53hW5tvwNpB7xkDj4PPHQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=gelly%2Brolls&qid=1757276932&sprefix=%2Caps%2C71&sr=8-3&th=1). I love the [metallic gold and silver ones](https://www.amazon.com/SAKURA-Gelly-Roll-Metallic-Pens/dp/B001LXK5HS/ref=sxin_17_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156%3Aamzn1.sym.e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156&crid=1Q4PS7T6CLRU9&cv_ct_cx=gelly%2Brolls&keywords=gelly%2Brolls&pd_rd_i=B001LXK5HS&pd_rd_r=c44f7488-65d2-4650-a1e3-df409918ee95&pd_rd_w=87mIc&pd_rd_wg=VrjAb&pf_rd_p=e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156&pf_rd_r=9CK5VSGKXZ70TAVBWTFK&qid=1757277019&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=%2Caps%2C71&sr=1-3-2c727eeb-987f-452f-86bd-c2978cc9d8b9-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9zZWFyY2hfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1), too! We also bought a set of the [pastel ones](https://www.amazon.com/SAKURA-Gelly-Moonlight-Pastel-Opaque/dp/B0BZ581363/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2DYYRPQ2J2CH5&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.HiA_nSMoRdu5wKAaPkeSXIGOFCRZev2W5dI2L2_thluTvHeDAVCfsW5ouTDW8n2A--r-XHxKqlqql-lMl8-GJhUmWNnFJJse8mKqZ7fE4bANZS953KB6K5foKRKvTrl9JKsX4gQdkNBA2bU23qOu3prG4IFBgfgdGQ-Ofb9uBXyRoEpf-FTsCCqsQqeed3BlegvgzKeEQUlKNmuHn1nnadzkpF_vu3mP3r79FLWcGwIcHXG8NXMqsHFvVNYpVM78GArv40eLtjV-hUks4V4xKGyitTaA617bfJB4hoNYwJ8.-q2wM5cnFgnA9pqqm-ijTpNMaHmDQ-7FW02s15KBlYo&dib_tag=se&keywords=gelly%2Broll%2Bpastel%2Bpens&qid=1757276717&sprefix=gelly%2Broll%2Bpastel%2Bpens%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-1&th=1) to share since there’s two of each color in the pack. I have to say, they don’t show up as well as some of the others on light paper though. Of course, I always have a couple [white Gelly Rolls](https://www.amazon.com/Sakura-57458-Gelly-Classic-White/dp/B075VJQ9SQ/ref=sxin_17_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156%3Aamzn1.sym.e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156&crid=1Q4PS7T6CLRU9&cv_ct_cx=gelly%2Brolls&keywords=gelly%2Brolls&pd_rd_i=B075VJQ9SQ&pd_rd_r=c44f7488-65d2-4650-a1e3-df409918ee95&pd_rd_w=87mIc&pd_rd_wg=VrjAb&pf_rd_p=e1a3e213-6255-4321-961f-3eda1e41b156&pf_rd_r=9CK5VSGKXZ70TAVBWTFK&qid=1757277019&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=%2Caps%2C71&sr=1-5-2c727eeb-987f-452f-86bd-c2978cc9d8b9-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9zZWFyY2hfdGhlbWF0aWM&th=1) on hand as I find myself using those quite often.

- [Black Micron Fineliners](https://www.amazon.com/Sakura-Pigma-30062-Micron-Blister/dp/B0008G8G8Y/ref=sr_1_5?crid=3LC5E4PFXI71G&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.AuOWZwVwZyT-OnIR_8vWEtx7FmLvmb2O8zyNArThbKfkTbzPQ8HqJc8sszmKGI21r_TjWiZ_f_lIbszLHJQZEeXplPFppmhEZBjH3ntawuSelRfBOS4RzUvYKZIYLc8NsvdmE7DYhMkz060GWdko-8ALbQenD6M2vmrGgY3p4emaneQ-HJhU9sR1bW7M_Mh345rDrRtTXp-pue7Ph4rbXum0thb7DxZEoOTcDKRSbP5MFVmqvV2EDFY9kXQfB_z4vPTkvo7QJwXCpj5dPp6ogF87U18ql-0IVFK9vA0b3AY.Ts7tbyUVtWF3FTufDDIMfUWya9YMWnon2r9bwrYBP4c&dib_tag=se&keywords=micron%2Bpen&qid=1757277176&sprefix=micron%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-5&th=1)

These pens are amazing! I think you would be able to find at least one in every artist’s pen collection. They are wonderful for both writing and drawing. I find myself using the 05, the 08, and the 02 the most, but I do use the other sizes every now and then, so it’s worth buying the whole pack. I use the 02 mostly for drawing and the 05 and the 08 for writing and hand lettering.

- [Pilot Pens](https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Premium-Roller-31020/dp/B001GAOTSW/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=23Q7BAVMYMKTZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.fS5vT8BcbimVDYM4inqvBrgMoE_bO9wYm_0VuUHoOcO18r5706pHacgugWYgZnpei1fWoON3830QGJ5xYz9jtmcSBQ_SNXhRPRZPlZFnAI_W5ZP4_29eir2uvmGj4P0EjA5vl-XaoCBHc2EyDoqfOiAb8UBUwiDDFH2QcopWNp-1EI8gobze-EUEM_CxLTbUPrpKOnTZiqTWBCoFKSt3oQ86Lyg2XTNa5MVWbJ0ecv6SpMVfPV5vGR9SoRF_JqAanKe8zFiG6oL-ruplpWVQIFrUeNSZH1nGEmhX1nEfqJA.C4WlIQfSjL7OMhU_uYlwKJH_Z4Ip5bVu7c-qtSMdU0o&dib_tag=se&keywords=pilot%2Bg2%2Bpens%2B0.7&qid=1757277635&sprefix=piolt%2B%2Caps%2C138&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1)

These are classic pens. They have great ink flow which makes them great for smaller hand lettering projects or for writing a card. Black is my favorite color when it comes to these, but I do use green and blue sometimes.

- [Sharpie Creative Markers](https://www.amazon.com/SHARPIE-Creative-Markers-Water-Based-Assorted/dp/B0CPMTDYVB/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1VHCE5QHELDWH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.4nCw5bJKphKxSLzqWNyG4KH5_kVOm4rrG30M1kZve_iL6VOYDawbLW9G3VlAWqA5rXHl0eUwqxOsK7LPPd1eWOjdXNpeBHPymuZ1xFD_gWjNt9pVzcoh3CKFow-P-1fwmRrUhp_PHOaepzD2VPDM6ZdcGaw8-I0MB6-tdYfE5NmXJ8_hwETIn7OXENYOptBJafHDj2AeKCgfzUmXPQKG1IZkqjNZd25i0lh67RoV0IrKvO8BBt-xNXZaXfqRF_kJJgruPjGv1cuqgf7bjcljluxx4xzyCHrJPdGFMGcAZqc.NvrvFaM5DpBrqC6QMS7fGvIu9io8BS89rvTtERjpwvY&dib_tag=se&keywords=sharpie%2Bcreative%2Bmarkers&qid=1757278067&sprefix=sharpie%2Bcreative%2Bmarkers%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-5&th=1)

Paint, but in pen-form. Sort of. These markers achieve a paint-like look which is great for covering large spaces. They don’t bleed through, which is very nice when working on thinner paper. I also write with these if I need to cover a large amount of space.

## Paper

We have a large stash of cardstock scrapbook paper that will likely last me the rest of my card-making career, so I haven’t bought paper in a long time. Any paper will do for card-making, really. I prefer cardstock because it’s thicker, and it holds up without bleeding through. I have used thinner paper to make many cards, and they have ended up just fine.

## Cutting Utensils

- [Paper cutter](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rotary+paper+cutter&crid=32S2MAA1Y3MW6&sprefix=rotary+paper+cutter%2Caps%2C117&ref=nb_sb_noss_1)

We have an old Fiskars one, it looks like they don’t make our identical one any more. I find this very useful when I am cutting large batches of cards.

- [Rotary cutter](https://www.amazon.com/OLFA-Rotary-Cutter-RTY-2-G/dp/B0006SJB24/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2V6NJO6PB2DB4&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.JFdJT7tkNe_WvMsBr967FQWqhzhoM9xjubDgiiNR62SfVM5EY05ebb6rsHZ8nMzxFXkJ6Mku3PzFhY6Swn6M-AI2p6n4DVv6ftJOVh2x9M0rZSpVTcWAiEIK7N7rerEDfxWod9m6hKXlYsVCTV6QVG7gSw-zLCSsAY-WxRWA2xaJSey7eFDQlzk1LKA_SlJkD_NWuRJGruewc3gOolpYpWWMVA4-z-Yu2_YD3gGo67qFB3PNY5tu-yf6TP0qScz6h9xesvYOM8n6p1ZINB6tid4wJ6odNa6RbjOabFhvG7A.4IBqqd1iAYC8gJIZeqCtTnppaEE9ffZZQ-8Pvxccqs8&dib_tag=se&keywords=olfa+rotary+cutter&qid=1757278824&sprefix=olfa+rotary+cutter%2Caps%2C104&sr=8-6) and mat

If I need to do an intricate cut or I just have one card to cut I’ll often turn to my rotary cutter. If you cut a lot of paper with your rotary cutter and you also cut fabric, I would recommend having a separate one for each since paper easily dulls your blade.

- Scissors

I do occasionally cut cards with scissors. However I generally prefer to use one of the above methods because I don’t cut a straight line well with scissors, even if I have a guideline to follow.

## Other Helpful Tools

- Ruler

Rulers are a must when it comes to making cards. I most often find myself using a regular wooden one, but sometimes I’ll use a sewing ruler similar to [this one](https://www.amazon.com/See-Thru-Dressmakers-Sewing-Clear-Ruler/dp/B09H8HPR9B/ref=sr_1_7?crid=F48A5KZ3OGVE&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Sj_vjFqNdq8_iK7NoedLm43BU1_Metycn9Aaa1es9j7eZEYe9QFtQuG1eNxWoENJuKE7mGpwBUFc_0CIE3YPVfz0R9nLefABE2ckWQtcoyxgeo-WHT25b4hFexw3qsKZzMvs14EgEmyDLhzNT_kuvaRTHj0qpFXN5TDqNnYErHZwZoS48UhpuaBV2gInQ6ez-cu5VQg_gQn6fb7qo__JlPxXPzRdXHajhzglVFAx0Nf3tccf-Fwv-RfGJy4cXQm--ZhF8rT4MBN6saSucOjH1eWiq9C9kPEhDlzCuveT3gc.gYd9jj0PJCmbyhVkqJJNeRMVwmP689EwjykBTvT6d3g&dib_tag=se&keywords=dritz+see+through+ruler&qid=1757279347&sprefix=dritz+see+through+ruler%2Caps%2C86&sr=8-7). I do try to refrain from using the sewing ruler I have because of the gaps in the plastic. I find that when I’m running a pencil along the edge of it, it will tend to give a little when the pencil reaches the spot where the gap is.

- [Eraser](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=eraser&crid=9FSQJDL3807V&sprefix=eraser%2Caps%2C132&ref=nb_sb_noss_1)

Very handy for erasing pencil guidelines or other markings. If I’m writing or drawing something that needs to look really nice, I always turn to pencil guidelines and maybe even a pencil draft.

## A Great Book for Inspo

The sunshine card in the cover photo for this post was from a tutorial in this book. (It's also pictured on the cover!)
